Mort Moose

Hi boys and girls, Mort here with another interesting book for you.

Do you like animal stories? Have I got a book for you and it’s true.

The title of this book is “Bulu: African Wonder Dog” by Dick Houston.

This true story takes place in Africa where Steve and Anna Tolan have moved from being police in Britain to become wildlife protectors in Zambie, Africa. They love their new life except they miss having a dog.

People in Africa try to tell them not to get a dog because there are so many wild animals that dogs get hurt, but the Tolans adopt a scrawny runt, a Jack Russell mix. They name him Bulu, which means wild dog, but Bulu isn’t wild at all. In fact he is a big help in the job of taking care of the wildlife. He helps raise orphan warthogs, vervets, a baboon, a bushbuck and an elephant.

He has a gift to help calm anything animal from a lion to an alligator.

Life is not easy for Bulu. In protecting his family, he is almost blinded by cobra venom, infected with a deadly virus from a tsetse fly and barely survives a lion attack.

Though out everything Bulu shows the heart of a dog—strength, love and courage for his human and animal family.

This is a great story if you love animals, adventures and Africa.

Happy reading,

Mort

Hi there Boys and Girls.

Mort here with another cool book to tell you about.
The book is called “Bones and the Big Yellow Mystery” and it’s written by David Adler.

I have to admit that I am a mystery lover. That’s why you find me in the Haunted Mansion so much, and that’s why I like this book.

‘Bones,’ Jeffrey Bones, that is, considers himself a boy detective. He claims that he can solve any case no matter whether it’s a big one or a small one. Mr. Green has a case for Jeffrey, a BIG case. Mr. Green has lost his BIG yellow school bus.

Does Jeffrey have something in his bag of detective tools that will help him follow the clues in this puzzling case? How do you lose a BIG yellow school bus? Will ‘Bones’ be able to uncover this mystery?

If you like funny detective stories that will have you laughing out loud, you need to read about Bones and the Big Yellow Mystery. And if you enjoy this book, you will want to read “Bones and the Math Test Mystery” and “Bones and the Dog Gone Mystery.”

Happy reading.

Hello there Boys and Girls,

Mort here with a different sort of Cinderella story.

This one is a graphic story called, “Pigling: A Cinderella Story: A Korean Tale” told by Dan Jolley and illustrated by Anne Timmons.

Many of you have stepparents and know that they aren’t that bad, but everyone is afraid that someone new will be a wicked stepmother. So many stories are written about them so that you can compare your own stepparent and realize that things could be a lot worse.

This story comes from Korea. When Pear Blossom was born, one of the ways to honor her was to plant a pear tree. Both grew and became more and more beautiful.

Sadly Pear Blossom’s mother died and her father remarried a lady with a daughter of her own.  This mean woman called Pear Blossom by the name Pigling and asks her to perform impossible jobs.

Magical creatures appear and quickly finish the chores. After the garden is weeded by a magic ox, Pear Blossom goes to attend the festival in town. On her way, she loses a slipper and gets frightened by the magistrate’s caravan.

The magistrate falls in love with the girl and sets out to find the one missing a slipper. They marry and Pear Blossom is surprised to find the Magistrate’s courtyard filled with Pear trees.

I’m sure we all wish we had magical animals help us with our chores. Then we could go play sooner; but whether we have stepparents or not, life doesn’t really work that way. This is a beautiful graphic novel. I hope you enjoy it.

Good reading,

Mort

Hello there Boys and Girls.

Mort Moose, here, with an idea of a good book for you to read.

Have you ever been bullied? I asked that to some of the kids visiting the Haunted Mansion and they all said that they had. So I asked another bunch and they all had been bullied, too.  It didn’t seem to matter whether I was talking to kids who were great in math or reading, sports or video games, boys or girls. Everyone had been bullied.

So I looked for a book that you might relate to about being bullied. It’s called, “Willimena Rules! Book #6: How to Face Up to the Class Bully.”

There are lots of Willimena Rules! books. They are great. In them you get to meet Willie, her big sister Tina, various neighbors, Willie’s cat Doofus Doolittle, school friends and Willie and Tina’s loving family. In each of the books Willie has a problem that she tries to figure out on her own, but usually Tina steps in to help. Only some of Tina’s help winds up making Willie’s problem worse.  She means well, though.

In this book Willimena and Tina are riding the bus on the first day of school, and Willie is having the “back-to-school blues.” She is going into a bigger class with new students, a new teacher and she is scared.  Tina suggests that Willimena should just smile and be nice. But this doesn’t help Willie when she meets the class bully known as Mean Irene. So Willie has to do something special to put Irene in her place.

If you want to know how to solve the problem with your bully, read this book and you’ll find a possible solution. It worked for Willimena and it could work for you.

Happy reading,

Mort

It’s been awhile since Labor Day weekend when I had the whole gang out on my boat: we sailed around the bay, barbequed, kayaked, jet skied, listened to tunes, and soaked up the sun. We’ve been crazy busy since then, so it was great to have a chance to relax.

We’re officially launching our site, today, and I’m thinking about taking the gang out for a night of celebration. They really are an exceptional bunch of kids: hard working, talented, and thoroughly engaging. It’s not often that talent and likability come together. It’s very rare. Managing them is really a pleasure, and I wish I could say that of all artists.

Stella, my Personal Assistant, has been hovering around my desk. Seems she’s been reading over my shoulder and has gently suggested that I tell you more about myself. Hah! She well knows that’s not something I enjoy doing. Besides, doesn’t my bio on our site cover that?

Here is a fact about me. I enjoy reading. One of the reasons I enjoy reading so much is that it gives me the opportunity to see life through someone else’s eyes. It gives me the chance to imagine, and share in another person’s point of view. I think that by reading, I can better understand and connect with the world around me, myself, and other beings within this world.

Whatever is written is processed, filtered, analyzed, created to represent the ideas of the writer, through the writer. In large part, what a person writes is about that person or that person’s observations of life.

So, even if I don’t go into all of the details or specifics of who I am, what I write will eventually reveal everything you ever wanted or didn’t want to know about me, and how I see the world.

I hope that you enjoy visiting our site, and will share what you like and don’t like about it with all of us here. We will do our best to make it fun, interesting and informative.

Yours truly,

Mort Moose
